On Wednesday, January 23, 2008, the Asset Management Group of SIFMA will meet in Boston to discuss and continue planning its 2008 agenda. Among its top priorities for 2008, the AMG will develop guidelines for buy side valuation practices. This paper is particularly relevant in light of the unprecedented difficulties in pricing that the investment markets are currently encountering. This AMG initiative is being Chaired by Cynthia Meyn, Managing Director at Morgan Stanley Investment Management and a member of the AMG Steering Committee. Staff professionals are in the process of conducting member meetings to discuss current valuation practices at various types of buy side firms.
In 2008, the Asset Management Group will remain focused on maintaining an open dialogue with regulators, policy makers, rating agencies and other institutions regarding the buy side's views of the investment markets. David L. Murphy, CFA, of Fidelity Investments and Richard Weil of PIMCO currently serve as Chair and Vice Chair, respectively of the Asset Managment Group.
Please feel free to contact Joseph Sack, principal staff advisor to the AMG, jsack@sifma.org or 212-313-1165 for questions relating to SIFMA's buy side agenda.
